Objectives of the Course
To give into the general appearance of Turkish poetry as complying with pre-1940 and post-dinstinction the different trends and literary formations in the post-Republican Turkish poetry; to examine according to the sample poetries the poets who are represented literary groups clustering around the certain literary magazins.

Learning Outcomes
  1. He knows the social, political and historical events that play a role in the development of Turkish poetry.
  2. Knows the stages in which the Turkish poetry is spent daily from the beginning.
  3. It has information about the general features, groups, generations and trends of contemporary Turkish poetry.
  4. He selects poetry examples for use in Turkish lessons from contemporary Turkish poetry.
  5. He has knowledge about important representatives and works of contemporary Turkish poetry.

Each student will select the one poem to analyze from the poets of the Republican period and prepare as his / her project and deliver electronically it.

Course Contents
Literary tendencies, products and literary conflicts in Turkish poetry from the 1940s to the present day will be introduced together. The poetics of literary magazines representing these literary groups alone will be determined.
Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week Theoretical Practice Laboratory
1.A general review on periods of pre-Republican Turkish poetry and theoretical information about poetry examination.
2.Republican period of Turkish poetry and its general features, and the classification of this period poetry.
3.Periods, generations and trends in the post- Republican Turkish poetry: The previous generation of poets and Turkis poetry of Atatürk period. The analysis of Mehmet Akif’s “İstiklâl Marşı” (National Anthem), Necip Fazıl’s “Kaldırımlar” (Sidewalks), Tanpınar’s “Bursa’da Zaman” (Time in Bursa), A.K. Tecer’s “Nerdesin?” (Where Are You) and A.N. Asya’s “Bayrak” (Flag) poems.
4.The important representatives of the post- Republican Turkish poetry and examinations on their works: Yedi Meş’aleciler (Seven Torchest) and Serbest Nazımcılar (Free Versest / Social Realists). The analysis of Ziya Osman Saba’s “Sebil ve Güvercinler” (the Dispenser and Pigeons) poem.
5.The important representatives of the post- Republican Turkish poetry and examinations on their works: The analysis of C.S. Tarancı’s “Otuz Beş Yaş” (Thirty-Five Years of Age) and Dıranas’s “Şehrin Üstünden Geçen Bulutlar” (Clouds Passing Over the City) poems.
6.The important representatives of the post- Republican Turkish poetry and examinations on their works: The analysis of F.H.Dağlarca’s “Mustafa Kemal’in Kağnısı” (The Tumbrel of Mustafa Kemal) poem. Turkish poetry of the post-death of Atatürk (1940 onwards): A Garip (strange) poetry and its features.
7.The important representatives of the post- Republican Turkish poetry and examinations on their works: The analysis of Orhan Veli’s “Kitabe-i Seng-i Mezar-I” (The Tombstone Inscription-I) poem.
8.The important representatives of the post- Republican Turkish poetry and examinations on their works: The analysis of O.R. Horozcu’s “Uludağ Sokak Satıcıları” (The Street Vendors of Uludag) and M.C. Anday’s “Tohum” (Seed) poems.
9.The important representatives of the post- Republican Turkish poetry and examinations ontheir works: The analysis of B. Necatigil’s “Kır Şarkısı” (Country Song) and the any poem of Cahit Külebi. 1950 Generation: Hisar (Castle) poetry and its poets.
