Objectives of the Course
During this course, students are intended to conceive the historical development process and structural transformation of Turkish economy in different periods. Furthermore, it is also aimed that students will be able make macroeconomic analysis of Turkish economy and sector-specific evaluation and suggestions for structural problems.

Learning Outcomes
  1. 1950-1960 Demokrat Parti döneminin ekonomik politika uygulamalarını ve sonuçlarını, ekonomideki yapısal değişmeleri değerlendirir, yorumlar.
  2. İkinci dünya savaşı yıllarında Türkiye ekonomisinin yapısını, savaş yıllarında uygulanan ekonomi politikalarını, savaş sonrası iktisat politikalarındaki dönüşümü ve dönüşümün gerekçelerini, süreçlerini bilir, değerlendirir, yorumlar.
  3. Türkiye ekonomisinin sektörel sorunlarından haberdardır, sektörel gelişmeler hakkında yorumlar yapabilir, sektörel sorunların çözümüne yönelik önerilerde bulunur.
  4. Students know the Heritage of Turkish Republic by Ottoman Empire and falling of the Ottoman Empire, philosophy of liberal economic policies implemented during the first 10 years of the Republic.
  5. Students analyze the reasons of transition in post-1960 planned development period, basic strategies, features and aims of development plans implemented. They also analyze and compare the economic transition process and economic growth during planned period to other periods.
  6. Students evaluate the separation of statism and state intervention concepts, reasons of transition to statist industrialization, implementations and results of statist industrialization.
  7. Students know the reasons and features of 2008 crisis and its effects on Turkey. In addition, they interpret and evaluate direct and indirect impacts of the crisis on global and Turkish economy and make estimations with possible scenarios.
  8. Türkiye’nin 1980’lerde liberal ekonomiye geçiş sürecini, nedenlerini, 24 Ocak 1980 istikrar kararlarının felsefesi, kapsamı ve politika uygulamalarını ve sonuçlarını değerlendirebilir.
  9. Türkiye’nin 1994 krizine girme nedenlerini ve krizden çıkış arayışlarını, bu dönemde uygulanan istikrar programının içeriği ve politika sonuçlarını, ertelenen sorunların 2000’li yılların başında yol açtığı ekonomik krizi ve krizden çıkış arayışlarını, EMP ve GEGP uygulamalarını analiz eder, değerlendirir, karşılaştırma yapar, senaryolar üretir.
  10. Students read the macroeconomic indicators of Turkish economy and realize the situation of the country in order to make future estimations.
  11. Türkiye ekonomisinin büyüme, işsizlik, dış ticaret, enflasyon, faiz ve döviz kuru, finansal piyasa gelişmeleri, yabancı sermaye vb. makro konularında analizler yapar, yorum yapma yeteneği kazanır.

Heritage of Turkish Republic by Ottoman Empire, Turkish economy early on the Turkish Republic, statist industrialization period, Turkish economy early on the Second World War and Post-War economic transformation endeavor, transition process to liberal economy on 1950s, 1960s and planned development period (analysis of development plans) 1978-1979-1980 crises and Decisions of January 24, 1980 and foreign expansion of Turkish economy, reasons of 1994 crisis and Decisions of April 5, 1994 to overcome the impacts of crisis, crises of 200 and 2001 (reasons of the crisis and programs to overcome the crisis), 2008 global crisis and Turkish economy, (monetary and financial policies implemented in each period, foreign economic relationships, Gross Domestic Product and developments in various macroeconomic indicators).

4.Turkish Economy during Second World War: Implementations of War Economy, sector-specific developments, foreign relations and outsourcing during the war period and transformations in the economic policies after the war (1946-1950)
5.Internal and external factors affecting new economic policy during 1950-1960, structural transformations, increasing foreign trade and external debts in the economy, 1956-1958 crisis and 1958 stability program

13.Industry: Role of manufacturing industry in the overall economy (its contribution to GDP, share in foreign trade and employment, structure and features of manufacturing industry (company scale, sub-sectors, industry of interim and investment goods, distinction of public and private sectors, foreign capital in the manufacturing industry)
