1. Calculate the electrical conductivities of metals, semiconductors and insulators; distinguish between interinsic and extrinsic semiconducting materials.
2. Describe the magnetization, explain the nature and source of diamagnetism, paramagnetism and ferromagnetism.
3. Define the index of refraction, describe the mechanism of photon absorption for insulators and semiconductors. Explain the translucency and opacity for inherently transparent dielectric materials.

Electrical magnetic and optical properties of materials.

 Hafta Teorik Uygulama Laboratuar 1. Electrical Properties: Electrical conductivity, electronic and ionic conduction; energy band structures in solids,conduction in terms of band and atomic bonding models. 2. Electrical Properties: Electron mobility, electrical rezistivity of metals, intrinsic semiconduction. 3. Electrical Properties: Extrinsic semiconduction, the temperature dependence of carrier concentration, factors that affect carrier carrier mobility. 4. Electrical Properties: The Hall effect, semiconductor devices, conduction in ionic materials, electrical properties od polymers, dielectric behavior, polarization and types of polarization. 5. Electrical Properties: Frequency dependence of the dielectric constant, dielectric strength, ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity. 6. Magnetic Properties: Basic concepts, magnetization, diamagnetism and paramagnetism. 7. Magnetic Properties: Ferromagnetism, antiferromagnetism and ferrimagnetism, the influence of temperature on magnetic behavior 8. MIDTERM EXAM 9. Magnetic Properties: Domains and hysteresis, magnetic anizotropy, soft and hard magnetic materials, superconductivity. 10. Optical Properties: Electromagnetic radiation, light intereaction with solids, optical properties of metals. 11. Optical Properties: Optical properties of nonmetals (refraction, reflşection and absorption). 12. Optical Properties: Optical properties of nonmetals (transmission, coloration, opacity and translucency ın ınsulators. 13.
