History

Department of Special Education was established in 2001-2002 academic year. It has two teacher education programs: Educatıon of Hearing Impaired and Education of the Mentally Disabled.

Qualification Awarded

Students earn Bachelor ' s degree as Teachers of Hearing Impaired Children.

Admission to this program requires High School Diploma and certain score from the National Entrance Examination in Turkey

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Depending on the degrees awarded, theoretical or practical courses taken as part of a degree (completed or not completed) may lead to recognition of these as prior learning by the programme administration. The students who have taken courses in another institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The executive boards of relevant programme will decide on the courses to be transferred covering students' entire academic program once and for all with the condition that the request for transfer be made within the first week of the academic year, the requests cannot be repeated.

Profile of The Programme

Division of education of individuals with hearing impairments was established under the department of special education in 2001. There are 2 teaching associates and 2 research assistant currently working at the devision.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

The graduates of this field can be employed as teachers of students with hearing impairment in the schools relating to ministry of education. The graduates can work as the staff who have authority to sign in special education and rehabilitation centers.

Access to Further Studies

Master's and doctoral programs in the Department of Education for the hearing impaired available. The students who have successfully graduated from the department may apply to post graduate programmes in Special Education Area, Educational Policy, and Psychological Services in Education.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate and the Department of Special Education is bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam, and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 40 % and 60% respectively. The marking is made out of 100. Grades of 92-100 is assigned a letter grade of AA, 84-91BA, 76-83 BB, 68-75 CB, 60-67 CC, 50-59 DC, 40-49 DD, 30-39 FD and 0-29 FF. The AA is the highest grade and has a grade credit of 4.00, BA 3.5, BB 3.0, CB 2.5, CC 2.0, DC 1.5, DD 1.0, FD 0.5 and FF 0.0.

  1. Defines the high-level information supported by the coursebooks, equipments for practice and the other scientific resources including the current information related to special education ,teaching profession world knowledge and fundamental sciences.
  2. Tells the methods used to determine the development learning characteristics and needs of the students.
  3. Explains the elements of the curriculum the teaching methods and techniques used ın their field.
  4. Explains has to make adaptation and prepares the class regarding the curriculum related to their field.
  5. Defines the socio-cultural and economical properties of the environment they live in.
  6. Explains what the family education programs for the families of the individuals with special needs are and how they are applied.
  7. Explains the methods related to the production of scientific knowledge.
  8. Uses the advanced-level information resources related to their field.
  9. Analyzes and evaluates concepts, ideas and data related to their field and teaching profession with the help of scientific methods.
  10. . Identifies, analyzes and argues the complex problems and subjects related to their field and makes suggestions based on scientific finding and evidences.
  11. Plans individual and group activities taking the students developmental features and individual differences into consideration.
  12. Develops materials for group and individual work relevant to students' needs and their subject field
