General Description

History

Restructuring of universities and high-school teacher training school in the Department of Educational Sciences was opened on 15 October 1982 converting. 1990 up to was given lessons teaching profession that taught in other departments. From the academic year 1990-1991 in the "Guidance and Counseling" program at graduate level education began opening. 1 and 2 Continuing education program in teaching about 500 students.

Qualification Awarded

The Department of Guidance and Counseling Program, a student at the successful completion of the "Psychological Counselor" is awarded with the title.

Specific Admission Requirements

Our department, receive students with the university placement examination which is conducted by OSYM. Our department had a quota of 500 students who were accepted with YGS-3 point type, in 2011-2012 education year, have been continuing education activities.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Degree in Guidance and Counseling department, department of higher education student status equivalent bulununan students are accepted through horizontal transpositions. They are attending institutions of higher education courses before they are successful applications for exemption will do the last two years of university courses in the total loan amount shall be adapted to read and evaluated. The total credits of the course is registered showing annual credit program load (5 / I courses are included) adapt to the next year, the student shall be more than 60%.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Guidance and Counseling department is a candidate for graduation Degree Program successfully completed all courses offered him 149 credits to graduate with the candidate, "counselor" determines the adequacy to be.

Profile of The Programme

The Programme in Guidance and Psychological Counseling is a bachelor's degree programme in the Department of Educational Sciences in the Faculty of Education. Besides the required courses, the programme offers courses related with teaching profession, specialization fields, culture and practice in the field. Students can also take elective courses. The programme has both theoretical and practical components. Theoretical courses are given at technologically-equipped classrooms. Practical courses are offered in collaboration Provincial Directorate of National Education, and primary and secondary schools under the supervision of a school counselor and mentor. Every year hundred students are accepted to the programme. The Programme in Guidance and Psychological Counseling is in the Faculty of Education, located at Kurupelit Campus of Ondokuz Mayıs University. The programme has 1 full professor, 2 associate professors, 5 assistant professor, 1 lecturers, and 4 research assistants. The academic board of the department makes decisions related to the programme

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

The graduated students generally placed in both governmental and private schools giving education at primary and secondary levels. Additionally, the graduates continue to their professional life in private tutoring institutions, Centers for Guidance and Research Centers, National Ministry of Law and Police Departments by providing psychological counseling to the relevant parties.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Attending to all the courses are hold compulsory. Students who are failed to participate %30 of the total classes for any course are considered as unsuccesfull for the unattended course. The final grades are calculated with the weighted effects of one midterm (%40) and final exam (%60). Norm-referenced grading is used for grading in the department.

Students are enrolled to attend classes that presented itself during the years of education, and that should be considered successful completion of 149 credits to graduate a candidate is entitled.

Facilities

For the use of Guidance and Psychological Counseling program, three classroom and a seminar room is at service. Both classrooms
have projection system. In addition to consulting rooms are available 5 pieces. Computer labs are in the service of faculty students for internet use. Also a library is in the service for faculty students. With the Erasmus program which our university enrolled in, student mobility is possible with abroad universities’ Guidance and Psychological Counseling program. Students can use the dormitories, refectories, social and sport facilities in the campus. All graduates are deployed at the first
year of their graduation to public or private institutions

  10. be able to prepare the counseling and guidance program accordance with the objectives and characteristics of the organizations
  11. use foreign language effectively in their professional activities
  12. be able to explain similarities and differences between people and communities within the framework of scientific methods
  13. be able to produce effective ways to intervene crisis in case of sudden and unexpected situations
  14. have the ability to identify students’ learning needs, to gain awareness in accordance with the program purposes, and to plan and management
  15. have skills on preparation of scientific research and investigation reports, accessing to the necessary resources during research, reporting and presenting research results effectively
