Primary Teacher Education Teaching Department offers a four-year program and trains students for becoming equipped and skilled elementary school teachers.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their education to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. The students of the University of Ondokuz Mayıs, some courses may be exempt under certain regulations. Course content from another institution, if the course content is appropriate with Ondokuz Mayıs University, and relevant faculty / institute / college approved by the director, students may be exempted from this course.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).

Profile of The Programme

The aim of the Elementary School Teacher Department is to train people who can serve as elementary school teachers having scientific knowledge and skills to work in both special and state schools under the head of the Ministry of National Education. In accordance with this aim, field knowledge, pedagogical formation and general knowledge lessons are conducted through the frame of Elementary School Teacher program determined by the Council of Higher Education under the guidance of expert academicians.

The graduates of this program employe as a "Primary Teacher" in the state and private primary schools.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Each course is assessed via a midterm exam(%40), and a final end-of-term exam(%60). The marking is made out of 100.

Graduation Requirements

Students who are successful from all lessons and having 2.00 (from 0-4 level) average and above from all lessons get undergraduate diploma at the field of Department of Primary Teacher Education

Facilities

Primary Education Program has 2 Proffessor, , 6 Assistant Proffesors, 5 instroctors. The department has classes with projection apparatus, seminar room, multipurpose room, library, computer laboratory, indoor facility, music room, drama room.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Possesses proper knowledge in science, math, and social fields related to the students' developmental levels.
  2. Use pedagogical concepts and elements in his/her Professional and Daily life.
  3. Has proficiency in following national and international literature in his/her field
  4. Possesses skills in proper, correct, and effective use of Turkish language and acquires healthy communication skills with students.
  5. Knows developmental characteristics and learning styles of students at the elementary education level and, based on the acquired information, makes effective planning and application.
  6. Fulfills teacher-researcher role through applying scientific thinking processes and steps in the processes of teaching and learning with a sense of Professional and scientific ethics.
  7. Acquire sufficient skills in using Information and Communications Technology for educational purposes in learning and teaching process.
  8. Knows contemporary teaching, different assessment and evalution strategies, methods, and techniques and applies them in the processes of teaching and learning.
  9. Knows the characteristics of the measurement tools that can measure cognitive, affective, and psychomotor properties and develops tools and methods that can measure these properties with procedural and outcome dimensions.
  10. Believe in democracy, is sensitive to law, and human rights as well as the national and universal cultural features
  11. sensitive towards society, environment, human beings, art and sport activities around them and educate young ones who support life long learning and are beneficial to society, critical and explorers.
