General Description

History

Physics Department at Ondokuz Mayis University was founded in 1975, has been given at high quality education in BSc, MSc and PhD level for thirty five years and has good laboratory facilities at all levels.

The name of the completed department of student is written on diploma, there is no score of student on it, is only written to be successful on it. The score of student is determined on transcript.

The students can be registered to Physics department after examination process of OSYM

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)


The students attending equivalent programs in domestic and abroad university can apply for transferring to this department. After applying to this program, programs are compared to each other. If programs are compatible, students are accepted to this program. If student are foreigner and this student know Turkish, are accepted to this program otherwise it is recommended to attend Turkish course.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations


The students must have a proficiency test for foreign language done by Foreign Languages department before starting to university. The student must have a sixty out of one hundred to be successful. The student also must register their courses during renewing register the beginning of term. Students must be successful with precondition course for registering.

Profile of The Programme



The student must attend the compulsory and selective course for four years. The students attend the compulsory and selective course including physics course for last four terms after having fundamental physics, mathematics and chemistry for first four terms. This will be guided to lead their interest field.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples



The student graduated from this department can be physics teacher as long as having certificate of school-teaching. They can find job at industry as researcher in ARGE, MTA, MKE, DSI, TUBITAK, Atom Energy, Calibration centre at private company. Medical Hospital, Oncloghy centre and Health Physicist.

Access to Further Studies



The succesfully student graduated from this department can be apply for the MSc and PhD programs.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading



The score of success of course must be with 40% for midterm score and with 60% final and resit score.

Graduation Requirements



The student must pass all theoretical and practical course to graduate from this program. After that, diploma is given to students according to board decision.

Facilities

Physics department have BSc student lab including fundamental physics (mechanic and electricity), Modern physics Lab, Waves and Optic Lab, Nuclear Physics Lab and research lab including Single Crystal Lab, ESR lab and Nuclear Physics Lab.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Students graduating with BSc in physics should be able to: 1. Know concepts in classical and modern physics.
  2. 2. Have basic knowledge in mathematics and chemistry which are required in physics.
  3. 3. Define, describe and offers solutions to the problems in physics and then find the practical and numerical solutions to these problems.
  4. 4. Use physics knowledge in other theoretical and practical sciences
  5. 5. Gain analytical thinking skills.
  6. 6. Use information technology effectively to solve the problems.
  7. 7. Plan and make an experiment and then collect and analyse the experimental data.
  8. 8. Gain basic skills about the multidisciplinary group studies. Make group studies. Write a project and direct it.
  9. 9. Follow the scientific and technological developments related to his field with the consciousness of lifelong learning.
  10. 10. Make presentations in oral and written form. Know at least one foreign language in basic level.
  11. 11. Use a computer program to solve the problems related to his field. Know at least one computer program. Use the communication technologies.
