General Description

History

Ondokuz Mayıs University Philosophy Department established in 2008 related toThe Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The department aims at teaching research and education on different philosophical subjects and philosophical thinking methods to the students.

Qualification Awarded

The Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy (first cycle in Philosophy) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the cirriculum.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Recognition of prior formal learning in Turkish Higher Education about transition vertical, horizontal and interuniversities is mentioned in the regulations for transfers amongs the Higher Education Institutions at the Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree Levels by Council of Higher Education. Transferring from other universities to Ondokuz Mayıs University ,enforces regards to under date of 24/4/2010 and 27561 numbered regulation on Official Gazette by Council of Higher Education and Senate. Acceptance students from associate degree to degree is indicated on 'Regulation of Further Students education to Degree Learning Programmes who gratuated from Vocational school and Faculty of Open University' in dated 19/2/2002 and numbered 24676 on Official Gazette.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students must obtain a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).

Profile of The Programme

Duration of the department is 8 half-term ( 4 years). Teaching language is Turkish.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Programme provides employment for graduated student on public institutes like Ministry of Health, Justice Department, The Ministry of Education, Social Services, and on some private organizations like Assessment of Psychotechnics or several Industry Organizations. Graduates are able to take Certificate Pedagogical Formation to continue their career as a teacher and they also continue their education with doctorate and masters degree programmes on philosophy or different accepted programmes.

Access to Further Studies

Students that accomplished succesfully the teaching degree may continue their education on Gradute programmes on the other Universities even if they have the neccesary exam conditions.

Facilities

Philosophy deparment uses the classrooms of Arts and Science Faculty and has a seminer room in this faculty. The department also has a library with more than 100 books and academic journals.
