General Description

History

Agronomy Department is the first department tahat it has officially started education at Angricultural Faculty in 1976.In the first there was only Field Crops Breeding and Imrovement main branch but later ıt was divided in to “Cereals and edible Grain legumes” , “Industrial Crops” and “Range-me adow and Forage Crops” main branches.Now , there are 17 academic staff.
At he Agronomy Department , it has been bringing up Angricultural Engineers who have enough knowledge and skill full about cereals , legumes , industrial crops and range me adow and forange crpos breeding and improvement since 1976. They can also produce knowledge , convert this knowledge to economical benefits respectful to environment , protect the biological diversity and natural resources.In addition , at the department new projects are produced with the aim of to solue regional and national angricultural problems.

Qualification Awarded

Agricultural Engineer:• The Bachelor's Degree in Field Crops is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.

Specific Admission Requirements

High school diploma and to be placed through the Undergraduate Placement Exam-LYS (for more information, please visit web site of www.osym.gov.tr) are necessary for approval and registration. Within a quota, the Program accepts foreign students taken the University Entrance Exam for foreign students made by Ondokuz Mayis University.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Equivalence adopted by the Council of Higher Education institutions can be admitted. High School graduates who are successful in vertical transfer exam to receive a bachelor's degree may be admitted to be able to continue their education. These students learn from vocational high school graduates by the department concerned before taking into account the lessons, and succeeded in determining the adjustment is made. An examination is being held for the level of foreign language and students may be exempted from these courses in the curriculum if they receive a passing grade.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students must take and pass all courses at minimun 120 credits (240 ECTS) including graduation thesis and internshipsthat are explained by the Education and Exam Regulation of Ondokuz Mayis University.

Profile of The Programme

Program targets to educate the students and to enable them to produce solutions to the current field crops in agricultural sector based on the knowledge, talents and competencies acquired during the program and use these solutions in their professional life and convey them to related individuals and institutions and improve themselves in line with changing conditions.To become an educational entity that will observe the scientific standards and objectivity in all activities at all times and maintain dialog continuously with the alumni and decision makers in agricultural sector to help find solutions to the important and current economic problems of the sector and renew itself in accordance with the requirements of changing time.
The program consist of basic agricultural engineering lessons such as biology , physiology ,ecology , soil science , breeding technigues , experiment tecniques and basic field crops lessons about cereals , legumes , industrial crops , grasslands and forage crops breeding and improvement.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Graduates take professional role in establishment of many public and private sector. Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Ministry of Development, Public and Private Banks, Agro-Industry Enterprises, Agricultural Cooperatives, Control and Certification Bodies, Consulting Firms in agriculture and agro-industry, appraisal firms and non-governmental organizations. Graduates also take place in national and international agricultural development projects that are very much promising.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree and satisfactory scores about ALES or GRE, transcript and foreign languaeare eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

For each course assessment and grading is described in Syllabus in details. Grades are assessed through relative assessment system of the Education and Examination Regulation of Ondokuz Mayis University.

Graduation Requirements

Students must take and pass all necessary courses, graduation thesis and intermship listed in curriculum totaling 240 ECTS credits and reach a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2,0.

Facilities

In the deperment there are a meeting room and library , classrooms , 16 offices , a plant analysis laboratory , a seed laboratory , Biotechnology and tissue culture laboratories , student application laboratory , NIR laboratory and field experiment areas.
