General Description

History

Mechanical Engineering Department was established in 1993 within the Faculty of Engineering and it has begun to accept students at the undergraduate level since 2008-2009 academic year.

Qualification Awarded

If the students fulfill all requirements to graduate, they deserve to take bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Department.

Specific Admission Requirements

Within the frameworks of regulations that set by Council of Higher Education, students acceptance in Mechanical Engineering Department is approved by system that Student Selection and Placement Center makes (Via Higher Education Examination-Undergraduate Placement Examination). OMU accepts foreign students via Foreign Student Exam (YOS). After the students make an application to enroll the programs that they wish to take an education, this center place them in releated program. Foreign students are accepted in this program by SAT, ACT test scores which is internationally recognized or high school graduation notes. (Associate Degree Program or Undergraduate Programs Foreign Students Acceptance Directive). Students acceptance for General Academic Exchange Protocol is made by bilateral agreements singned between Maltepe University and partner university (Erasmus, Farabi, Etc...). Guest students can enroll the courses in this program provided that Related academic department approve their registrtions. The condition of sufficient knowledge of the language is required to monitor and undertsand releated courses.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The students educated by Ondokuz Mayıs University may be exempt from some courses according to particular regulations. Provided that The contents of the course at another institution have same contents in our course and the course content is approved by relevant Faculty / Institute / College director, the student may be exempted from this course.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The conditions of successfully complete all courses, average grade point at least 60 out of 100 and the 60-day internship are requiremets for graduation.

Profile of The Programme

Department of Mechanical Engineering not only satisfy technical personnel needs for our country but also it contributes to the production of scientific research activities in our country. As much as production of information, providing R & D contrubition for patents register as the practical applicability of this information is mainly targets of the department.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Mechanical Engineering which is one of the oldest and most extensive areas of Engineering activities deals with machinery,energy and manufacturing-production methods. Mechanical Engineers design and fabricate machines and equipment for all the branches in the industry as well as machine tools. For example, turbines, printing presses, earth-moving machines,food processors, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, artificial hearts and limbs, aircraft, diesel locomotives, passenger cars, trucks and engines for vehicles of mass transportation, etc. With their expertise in the field of energy they deal with the design,manufacture and operation of hydraulic turbines which will drive electrical generators and boilers to create steam power,engines, turbines and pumps, They design and operate power plants, they deal with economic combustion of the fuels,turning heat energy into mechanical force and use this power in optimum circumstances. In the field of heating, ventilation and air conditioning mechanical engineers provide controlled temperature and humidity conditions in houses, offices, commercial buildings and industrial facilities. They develop equipment and systems for keeping nutrients in the cold, cold storage and ice manufacturing plants Mechanical Engineers also works in the design of machines for passenger,cargo and warships , design and manufacture of cars, trucks and buses in the automotive industry and also in design of new aircraft and spacecraft in air-space industry.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Ability to use the knowledge of mathematics, science and basic engineering on mechanical engineering applications.
  2. Ability to design and conduct experiments, to analyse the experimental results and to use modern tools and equipment.
  3. Ability to choose, develop and design a machine, component, system or process in order to provide desired performance, manufacturing capabilities, the affordability and efficiency .
  4. Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and to have leadership ability.
  5. Identifying, formulating, solving and presentation skills of mechanical engineering problems.

  7. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  8. Having knowledge about the global and national effects of mechanical engineering.

  11. Having more information and experience in one of the mechanical engineering applications (construction-manufacturing, energy and installation) field chosen by student.
