General Description

History

Undergraduate courses by Department of Economics started in 2007-2008 academic year.
Students have been accepted master program since 2012-2013 academic year

Qualification Awarded

The Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Administrative Sciences-Economics is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.

Specific Admission Requirements

The general requirements explained in “General Admission Requirements” of Ondokuz Mayıs University Regulation on Education and Examination are applied for admission of students.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Vertical and horizontal transfers can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

48 courses exist in the curriculum. (157 credits/equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS). 37 % of the courses are electives. Students can also take courses from different departments.

Profile of The Programme

The graduate program in economics aims to provide students with a solid theoretical background in this field and support their knowledge with statistical and econometric methods.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Graduates, can find employment opportunities both in the public and private sector, such as Central Bank of The Republic of Turkey, Turkish Statistical Institute, The State Planning Organization, Capital Markets Board, İstanbul Stock Exchange, Banking Regulation and Supervising Agency in various positions as officer, researcher or assistant experts.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s or Doctoral Degree Programs.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students are required to sit for one midterm and one final examination for semester course. Forty percent of the midterm grade and sixty percent of the final exam grade add up to overall passing grade.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Ability to apply economic theory and methods to real life problems
  2. Acquire basic economic language skills in order to follow a wide range of journals including acedemic ones,
  3. Acquire basic knowledge about national and international economic problems.
  4. Ability to use statistical and econometric programs (SAS, SPSS, e-Views etc.) in addition to basic computer programs (Microsoft Office etc.)
  5. Ability to use theories and methods of microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics in economic policy problems.
  6. Ability to use basic statistical and econometric methods inimicro amd macro policy problems.
  7. Ability to evaluate the effect of economic policies on individual and firm desicion making process.
  8. Ability to evaluate current economic issues in a socio-economic perspective.
  9. Ability to gather data and propose scientific solutions to various challenges in business life.
  10. Ability to write a basic review paper on one of the fields such as money, banking, international trade and finance, economic growth and development, political economics, agriculture and environmental economics, industrial economics, labor economics and econometric methods.
  11. Ability to gather, interprete and analyze data for economic policy related project activities.
  12. Ability to use modern economic techniques in a teamwork environment.
  13. Ability to convert and transfer the knowledge acquired into the business environment.
  14. Adopts the principle of lifelong learning.
  15. Ability to participate in various scientific activities in the field of economics.
  16. Act in accordance with the ethical principles of scientific and professional work.
