General Description

History

Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Ondokuz Mayıs University was founded on 1995. The Faculty comprises three departments: Department of Business Administration, Department of Economics and Department of Political Science and Public Administration

The Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration ( first cycle in Business Administration ) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum

Specific Admission Requirements

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ondokuz Mayıs University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 60 (2.00) out of 100 (4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).

Profile of The Programme

In a context of lobal competition, professional managers needs to be well-informed and equipped with entrepreneurial vision and thechniques. Therefore, a contemporary business education program should be prepared taking into account the changing national and international market environments. The purpose of undergraduate education of EU, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Business Administration is to equipp students with a flexible mentality and adaptation capabilities to ever-increasing global competition. Undergraduate program aims to provide the students information in the fields of numerical methods and computer in addition to courses related to business administration and social sciences. The program provides the opportunity to specialize minor fields in Production Management and Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Management and Organization. The purpose of the program is to prepare the students as a specialist or researche.to the business life in the public and private sectors. This program aims to provide education that helps to understand and deal with the developments of the 21st century. The BA programme has a duration of 4-year excluding English Preparatory Class has been designed to provide the fundamentals of contemporary business administration. A distinctive feature of the Department is to offer almost %70 of the courses in its curriculum in English. Students not comprehensive in English must attend an one year Preparatory Program offered by the School of Foreign Languages. Once the proper comprehension level in English is obtained, students then can begin the first year in the department.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

The graduates have opportunities of employment in a variety of government organizations and private funded companies. Graduates are employed in almost every industry, such as manufacturing industires, services industries, public and non-governmental organizations.

Access to Further Studies

he graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation.The assessment for each course is described in detail in “Individual Course Description”. The midterm examinations are compacted and given in the 8th week of the semester. Dates of midterm examinations are announced by the Department in the first month of the semester. In addition to midterm examinations and other work, students are required to take a final examination. Final examinations are held at the appropriate place and hour as decided. Forty percent of the midterm grade and sixty percent of the final exam grade add up to the overall passing grade. Students must attend classes, practices and examinations. Students' attendance is followed by the Instructor of the course.

Facilities

There are some social clubs for lateral fields of business management in our department. The students may seek membership in them according to their interests. Through guest speakers invited to our faculty during the symposiums, congresses and panels about different issues students are able to follow latest developments in practice and improve their theoretical knowledge. In addition, they have opportunities to join sports clubs such as football, basketball, volleyball and many others about sports.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Concerning his/her field he/she has up to date and contemporary knowledge together with theoretical knowledge accepted in literature in order to use in his/her professional life.
  2. He/She has the technical language and jargon to follow professional publications and journals related to his/her field.
  3. He/She has theoretical and practical knowledge related to his/her field and has competence and features which is necessary in national and international career/competition environment.
  4. Concerning Business Management field, he/she has a motivation to learn theoretical knowledge related with his/field and use modern technology related with his/her profession, totake part in teamwork and to learn lifelong together with occupational ethic and responsibility, he/she is aware of the national and international problems.
  5. He/She can transform theoretical knowledge he/she obtained in his/her field into conceptual and cognitive knowledge, he/she has the ability to conduct a business independently in his/her selected career field.
  6. He/She has the ability to specialization in an area which is comply with his/her interest and ability.
  7. He/She has the ability to collect, interpret and analyze the data that relates to the conceptual and cognitive knowledge developed with specialization and use these knowledge to conduct and direct field related projects
