General Description

History

Department of Public Relations and Promotion in The Faculty of Communication of Ondokuz Mayıs University has been established at 01.02.2010 to educate skilled and informed staff for communication sector as a solution to the lacking of qualified employee in the field.

Qualification Awarded

The Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations and Promotion is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.

Specific Admission Requirements

To be graduated from high school and required points to be taken from LYS.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ondokuz Mayıs University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 60 out of 100 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).

Profile of The Programme

The programme educates versatile PR practitioners with the knowledge, skills, ability and experience, who can perform in the field of public relations and publicity. People who complement to programme have the ability to manage interpersonal and corporate communication processes, internalize the values of communication ethics, are aware of the changes and developments in the occupation in both national and international platforms, have the skills to adapt these to the field, have the necessary knowledge on information communcation technologies and have the ability of contemporary and analytical thinking.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Students who graduate from this programme can work both in public and private sectors in the areas of communication, media, PR, customer relations and corporate relation as PR and communication experts.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines and required points from ALES has be taken.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The final grades are calculated with the weighted effects of one midterm (%40) and final exam (%60). Norm-referenced grading is used for grading in the department

Graduation Requirements

Students are enrolled to attend classes that presented itself during the years of education, and that should be considered successful completion of 106 credits to graduate a candidate is entitled. Facilities

Within the Department of Public Relations and Promotion there are 3 assistant professors, 3 research assistants and 1 instructor working in the academic staff. The set up process of practical workshops is being prepared.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Understanding the importance of fundamental concepts of public relations, related disciplines and comprehending the relations between the disciplines.
  2. Being able to research, plan, implement and audit the processes about public relations and publicity.
  3. To improve democracy and human rights in the center of the field of the profession and ethical responsibility.
  4. To be able to practise research system and technics in the professional field.
  5. To be able to understand and express intercultural communicational sensibilities and have the sense of empathy.
  6. Being able to think strategically about public relations and related fields and build strategies over them.
  7. Creating the sustainable development and quality insight oriented to concepts such as; corporate communication, reputation, value, social responsibility, perception, etc.
  8. Evaluating the contribution of public relation theories and applications to the existing/potential ocassions and problems in the national and international area.
  9. To be able to use communication skills in the media field.
  10. Offering occupational views and solutions by following the national and international cultural and contemporary approaches, problems and events.
  11. Having technical knowledge, skills and experiences about the mediums of public relations and publicity.
  12. Being able to build up the processes of research, mesearument and evaluation relating to the fundamental steps of PR practices.
