General Description

History

The Department of Tourism Management at Ondokuz Mayıs University continues its activities within the Faculty of Tourism . Tourism Management Department was established in 2012 and for the first time faculty students received 40 students in 2013-2014 academic year. The aim of the department is to educate the qualified and qualified candidates for the tourism sector by obtaining the scientific and qualified education and training required in the field of tourism. Ondokuz Mayıs University Department of Tourism Management aims to educate manager candidates who have knowledge and skills in tourism sector, tourism management, information technology and modern business, who have good foreign language skills.

Profile of The Programme

Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Tourism, Tourism Management Dept. wwill be established the detected by HEC Turkey Higher Education Qualifications Framework as defined in section complementary properties of a person referred to in professional information division area where it should be will be have also gained.

Similarly, individuals will graduate the department by having 100 working days of training did that for Turkey Higher Education Qualifications referred to in the professional knowledge part of the Framework professional standards, practices, situated profession with detailed information has to be and finding solutions to the problem issues in the area will also be learned.

All academicians will teach in areas where they are experts in the subject field. For example, academics who are experts in accounting for accounting courses and academicians who are in the field of marketing will attend courses of marketing. Similarly, in order to improve the foreign language skills of the students, academicians who are specialized in the field of foreign language will be employed and students will be able to develop their listening and speaking skills in a foreign language laboratory. In this case Turkey Higher Education Qualifications will make an important contribution toward the achievement of the attributes contained in the Framework of vocational skills. In other words, the statistical applications in the computer laboratory will increase the professional knowledge of the learners as well as the theory of getting the scholars who will be experts in statistics in the statistics courses. This also Turkey's Higher Education Qualifications Framework measures the satisfaction of consumers referred to in professional skills and one of the main outcomes of such research will contribute to the realization.

One of the most basic areas of business is undoubtedly management and organization. In this course, important issues such as the characteristics of the managers of an enterprise, the holistic viewpoint of operation, motivation, the necessities to be done in crisis and management theories are covered. Business activities are divided into main divisions such as planning, organizing, directing, coordination and control, thus aiming to maximize the productivity level of the enterprise. The Department formation with Turkey Higher Education Qualifications Framework professional skills section also expressed "capable of planning, organization, coordination, performs direction and control" purpose will be also achieved.

One of the important work areas in tourism is also marketing. In the modern world, not only goods and services now enter the field of marketing work, but destinations, cities and countries also enter into the field of marketing work. Tourism is one of the most important sectors that directly or indirectly affect 56 sectors. As a city becomes a destination, all sectors in the city will start to work. Countries such as Spain, especially Jamaica, have chosen tourism as one of the most important building blocks of their development. For all these reasons, the marketing infrastructure will contribute to the tourism and academic life of the country, thanks to the well-educated individuals and their academic studies, as well as the qualified academic understanding that they have received in the sector. This is because tourism is also a working issue in marketing services intensively, and one of the most basic parameters of this field is undoubtedly the inside. The more knowledgeable and educated the person is when the service is considered as an element of marketing, the more qualified the service will be. Thanks to the academicians who specialize in structuring the department for this purpose, they will graduate with the highest level of equipment as both academical and sectoral knowledge.

Establishment of the Department of Tourism Management will be carried out to raise awareness of the community on tourism and to create a tolerant environment for tourists and to increase the contribution of the tourism industry to the economy and increase the knowledgeable, .

World Economic Forum's 2009 reports will show an average annual 4.4% growth in the years 2009-2018 the tourism industry in Turkey also TÜRSAB According to the report, in 2001 the number of people directly employed in tourism, while 1,007,793, the number of direct tourism employment in 2009,It is known to exceed 1500.000 . A careful examination of these figures is in a position of Turkey's tourism sector and the need for the industry promising elements will be more in the future.

Access to Further Studies

Individuals with a Bachelor's Degree can continue to Master and / or (Ph.D.) Ph.D. programs in the case of relocations (ALES score, Foreign Language score) which are determined by the universities.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

It is carried out in line with OMÜ Education-Training and Examination Regulations. Different measurement and evaluation methods can be used for each course.

240 ECTS and 2 terms of internship, each one is 50 workdays , total 100 workdays

Programme Outcomes

  1. Student has knowledge about management and organization in tourism management field and may use the knowledge in decision-making, planning and application processes in a professional manner.

  3. Student has knowledge about accounting and finance in tourism management field and may use the knowledge in decision-making, planning and application processes in a professional manner.
  4. Student may apply the theoretical knowledge according to the national, sectoral and corporational needs.
  5. Student may implement all phases from making an investment decision to administration about tourism industry.
  6. Student may have cognitive abilities such as attention, memory, judgement and evaluation, logical reasoning, problem solving and decision-making, comprehension and linguistic production.
  7. Student may solve problems by assessing concepts, ideas and information in academic and implicational areas.
  8. Student comprehends strategical, tactical and operational dimensions of business administration as well as its local, national, international and global dimensions.
  9. Student has knowledge about his/her field and may transfer his/her knowledge, predictions and ideas both written and orally.
  10. Student has operational knowledge about touristic businesses.

  12. Student may determine strategical aims and targets, implement them through planning by evaluating sectoral conjuncture and making forecasts.
  13. Student may analyze enterprise, its competitors, sector and its competition situation through various graphics, matrix and tables.
  14. Student has knowledge about software components used by various fields in the sector and has basic knowledge about the software. Student also utilizes communication technologies well enough.
  15. Student has ability and knowledge about all departments found in a hotel organization scheme.
  16. Student may prepare business projects and play an active role in programming, evaluation and implementation phases.
  17. Student may learn ‘learning by faults’ by making analysis about problems had been faced and may also adapt life-long learning principle.
  18. Student may talk at least one lingua franca in international agreements, meetings and partnerships.
  19. Student has sufficient knowledge about actual topics that are interesting community and enterprise such as work safety, worker health, social security, quality and sustainability.
  20. Students are informed about contributions of tourism to community and the world.
