General Description

History

Aims to start joint postgraduate and PhD programs in the Department of Biostatistics and brings the Institutes of Health Sciences of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) and Hacettepe University (HU) together to ensure the highest academic standards in education and training.

Depends on the provisions of "Regulation on the Joint Postgraduate Education and Training Programs which will be established by the Higher Education Institutions together with other domestic Institutions", which was published by the Board of Higher Education in the Official Gazette dated 22.02.2007 with No. 26442 and on the related provisions of the Law on the Higher Education No.2547, to which the above mentioned regulation refers. Since the Department of Medical Informatics is a separate Department in Hacettepe University, we do not have a special protocol on this issue.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Those who have graduated from faculties related to the Health Sciences do not attend the MEDICINE PREPARATORY class. 2. Those who have graduated from faculties other than the Health Sciences attend the 1-year MEDICINE PREPARATORY class (This rule is implemented within the OMU regulations). 3. Those who have not graduated from Faculty of Statistics attend the 1-year Statistics Scientific Preparatory class. 4. Those who have graduated from Faculty of Statistics only attend the MEDICINE PREPARATORY class. 5. Those who have graduated from a 5-year faculty have a special status (see PhD program).

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Except for the preparatory classes, the academic evaluation is performed at the end of 2 years (4 semesters) + 1 year (2 semesters) (varies according to the graduate degree).

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Students graduated from the Department of Biostatistics with the postgraduate degree have the opportunity either to study for a further career in their own field or in other sub-disciplines of the statistics (Biometrics, psychometrics, sociometrics, etc.) or to work as a statistical consultant for other research institutions.

Access to Further Studies

Students who have received their postgraduate degrees in biostatistics can enter the PhD programs, providing the terms mentioned in the regulations and directives.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Student Assessment methods: ° Written and oral examinations. Practical examinations on computer. ° Seminar presentations (Of the terms of the 2 Institutes of Health Sciences, the highest term is applied). If a student wants to raise his/her mark in a course subject, (s)he can attend the course again. The final mark is accepted in the calculation of academic average.

Graduation Requirements

Postgraduate program with thesis is consisted of at least 24 credits including specific topic courses and thesis or art study. According to the European Credit Transfer System, it is consisted of courses not less than a total of 60 credits and specific topic courses including thesis/art studies not less than a total of 60 credits.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Biyoistatistik ile ilgili uzmanlık gerektiren konuları kurgular, çözüm önerileri getirir, sorunlar çözer, elde edilen sonuçları değerlendirir ve gerektiğinde uygular.
  2. Biyoistatistik alanı ile ilgili konularda öngörülmeyen karmaşık durumlarla karşılaşması halinde çözüm önerileri geliştirir ve sorumluluk alarak çözüm üretir.
  3. Biyoistatistik alanı ile ilgili çalışmaları bağımsız ve/veya ekip olarak yürütür.
  4. Bilimsel bir makaleyi ulusal düzeyde bir dergide yayınlar ya da bilimsel bir toplantıda sunar.
  5. Alanı ve toplum sağlığı ile ilgili öncelikli konularda bilimsel klinik ve/veya tanımlayıcı araştırma/sunum/yayın yapar.
  6. Biyoistatistik alanı ile ilgili bilgileri eleştirel bir yaklaşımla değerlendirir ve öğrenmesini yönlendirir.
  7. Biyoistatistik alanı ile ilgili mesleki gelişim ve yaşam boyu öğrenme ilkelerini gerçekleştirdiği çalışmalarda uygular.
  8. Biyoistatistik alanındaki bilgilerini, güncel gelişmeleri ve kendi çalışmalarını aynı alandaki veya dışındaki gruplarla yazılı, sözlü ve görsel olarak sistemli bir biçimde tartışır ve paylaşır.
  9. Mesleki ve profesyonel ortamdaki sosyal ilişkileri ve bu ilişkileri yönlendiren normları eleştirel bir bakış açısıyla inceler ve bunları geliştirmek üzere gereğini yapar.
  10. Bir yabancı dili en az Avrupa dili portföyü B2 genel düzeyde kullanarak sözlü ve yazılı iletişim kurar.
  11. Biyoistatistik alanı ile ilgili konularda strateji ve politika geliştirebilme ve uygulama planlarını yorumlar ve elde edilen sonuçları bilimsel ve etik çerçevede değerlendirir.
  12. Biyoistatistik alanı ile ilgili verilerin toplanması, kayıtlanması, yorumlanması, duyurulması aşamalarında toplumsal, bilimsel ve etik değerleri gözetir ve bu değerleri öğretir.
  13. Biyoistatistik alanında özümsediği bilgiyi ve problem çözme yeteneklerini, disiplinler arası çalışmalarda uygular.
  14. Biyoistatistik alanındaki güncel gelişmeleri toplumun temel birimi olan çocuk ve aileyi de kapsayacak şekilde ulusal değerler ve ülke gerçekleri doğrultusunda değerlendirir.
  15. Biyoistatistik alanı ile ilgili konularda strateji,politika ve uygulama planları geliştirir ve elde edilen sonuçları kalite süreçleri çerçevesinde değerlendirir.
  16. Biyoistatistiğin daha ileri götürülmesine ilişkin ulusal ve uluslararası politika çalışmalarına katkıda bulunur.
