General Description

History

Ondokuz Mayis University, Institute of Health Sciences, Post Graduate Program with thesis of Veterinary Biochemistry began to provide the master education in 2012. Our department provide postgraduate biochemistry education for the students who have master degree from Faculties of Veterinary Medicine, Science and Pharmacy. The department’s academic staffs currently consist of 2 professor and 3 associate professor who work in full time status.

Master degree programme consist of 4 semesters (2 years); 1 semesters for lectures, 1 semesters for thesis and total of 51 lectures and 144 ACTS credits The registration, attendance and marking principles are ruled out according to the principles of the Undergraduate Training Regulations of Ondokuz Mayis University (http://www2.omu.edu.tr/akademikbirimler/enstitüler/saglik/yonetmelik.asp).

Graduation Requirements

It’s obligatory to attend to the theoretical lessons, to complete minimum 55 credit score, to prepare at least one seminar, a thesis and to be successful in written, oral and thesis exams in Biochemistry (Veterinary) Master of Degree Programme.

Routine Biochemistry Laboratory

This laboratory has ELISA reader, autoanalyser, UV visible spectrophotometer, light microscope, centrifuge, shaker, deep freeze (-20 oC), refrigerator, distile water equipment, water bath, vacuum oven, automatic pipette sets, digital pH meter, vortex, magnetic mixer and computer. Routine biocemical analyses can be done in this laboratory.

Research Laboratory

Electrophoretic and Western-blot analyses are performed in this laboratory. The laboratory has electrophoresis apparatus, homogenizer, cabine, refrigerator and automatic pipette sets.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Know the structure, classification and functions of biological macromolecules and metabolic pathways in the organism
  2. Gained use of basic techniques for veterinary biochemistry
  3. Have the ability to independent scientific work in their field as well as in collaboration with other disciplines
  4. Uses theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Veterinary Biochemistry
  5. Evaluate the results obtained from a study of biochemical, comments and provide oral and written in scientific environment
  6. Produce a scientific hypothesis about these hypotheses by experimental studies could reveal the theoretical and practical knowledge, and carry out a scientific research
  7. Can take responsibility for independent and multidiscipliner scientific studies
