General Description

History

Master program of Geography department have been started education in 1986 within Institute of Social Sciences by 1986/6 numbered decision of Senate.

Qualification Awarded

Students that successfully complete the program are awarded with a diploma announcing them as Master of Geography.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students who register for Master's program, academic and legal framework of regulations and according to Higher Education Law and Regulations put by Higher Education Council (YÖK), must be managed exams. Before the adoption of student academic semester program and application requirements OMU is published on the Internet at (www.omu.edu.tr). Students who started the program in domestic or foreign equivalent may apply for a transfer. Admissions of students before the start of term examine taking into account each student's degree requirements and student's application and assessed as special. Student exchange programs that approved by the University and exchange programs within the limits specified by an agreement, students from abroad to take courses given in the Department Institute. Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Students who attend Institute of Social Sciences may be exempt from some courses according to certain regulations. The contents of the course at another institution, If accepted into the program, about the equivalent of the institute, ıf the course content is appropriate and relevant faculty / institute approved by the director of students may be exempt from this course.

OMU graduate education and examination regulations were determined specified matters. Bachelor's degree, Transcript, ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Examination) certificate and certificate of foreign language if it is available. Graduates of geography master can work as teachers and academics and specialist of field observation, land use planning, regional planning, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Impact Analysis, environmental science, map editing, map libraries, Remote Sensing, aerial photo interpretation, cartography, education, international relations, geopolitics, marketing analysis, recreation resources management, health protection planning, water resources management, urban planning, social expertise, soil science, transportation planning, and Earth sciences.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates, assuming that they meet required degrees requested by the program in ALES exam and in a foreign language exam, can apply doctorate programs regarding their field of expertise.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Examinations are made in dates, places and times determined and announced by the University. Students have to attend the classes and exams. The attendance of the students is followed by the lecturer. 100 is the full point in the assessment of all exams, in addition to each course has a written mid-term exam (or homework assignment) and a final exam. The score of a course is calculated with the 40% contribution of the mid-term exam and 60% contribution of the final exam.

Graduation Requirements

The master's degree is awarded to students who have successfully complete all courses that associated with the department or other departments within the graduate program courses not less than 24 credits for at least 7 courses and seminar. These students must prepare a thesis about their branch of science and this thesis must be accepted as a success by a selected the jury.

Facilities

Geography department has the following resources:
-Three professors, one associate professor, two assistant professors, five research assistants, and two administrative staff are working for Department of Geography.
-Department of Geography has enough classrooms for theoretical instructions and a GIS laboratory which is open to students for the related courses.
- The various education methods and materials (computers, projectors and other some multimedia equipment) are used in departmental teaching lessons.
