The Master’s Degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed 24 credit-courses in the curriculum and presented a seminar and have obtained a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale/60 on a 100 scale.

1- To have a graduate diploma from a related department
2- To get 55 points at least out of ALES exam.

Profile of The Programme

Providing strong theoretical background within an interdisciplinary field, Women and Family Studies Programme aims to study the concept of gender in society, the social status of women and gender inequality particularly in Turkey and the concept and place of the family in culture. Carrying out scientific researches about gender roles and the status of women, presenting a framework of the society about gender and women issues and seeking solutions for inequality and for the status of women are to be examined in the program. Moreover, Women and Society Research Centre of 19 Mayıs University aims to investigate the problems of women such as violence, unemployment, early marriage, sexual harassment and to carry out projects in order to improve the status of women with the coordination of other government organizations and agencies in Samsun and in Black Sea Region as well.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

The degree enables the students to exercise the program within a disciplinary study. Graduates of the department can work in gender and women related organizations of the government and can be an expert or academician in a specific field as the department presents an interdisciplinary background.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates of this programme can apply for Phd studies in related departments.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Studenst are obliged to have a midterm (40%) and a final exam (60%) for the lessons.

Graduation Requirements

Students who successfully complete the required credits and pass all the courses in the curriculum and present a jury approved seminar can graduate from the programme.

As the programme is interdisciplinary, students have the opportunity to study in different departments of the university.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Students can examine the gender inequality within a historical perspective.
  2. Students can understand the social, political and economic reasons of violence against women.
  3. Students can produce solutions for the inequality between men and women
  4. Students can gain the motives to analyze interdisciplinary studies.
  5. Students can discuss the gender issues in philosophy, religion and literature.
  6. Students can analyze the inequalities of women in economy and politics and make solutions.
  7. Students can recognize the reflections of gender inequality in media.
  8. Students can observe the effects of gender roles in education.
  9. Students can define the gender roles and stereotypical roles in modern societies.
