General Description

History

Ondokuz Mayis University School of Medicine was founded in 1975 where department of physiology was founded in 1982. Faculty of Medicine, was carried out by the department of physiology of Hacettepe University until 1982. Specialist Niyazi Tasci was appointed in 1982 as Assistant Associate professor and led as the head of the department until 1986. After 1986 head of the Department of Physiology is helded by Prof. Dr. Cafer Marangoz.
Until 2013, Department of Physiology has been given 13 doctorate degrees.

Qualification Awarded

Student has been awarded with a degree of PhD in physiology whose graduated succesfully.

Students who has got courses in another institutions may be exempted with these courses providing the approve of the Board of Directors of the Institute.

Profile of The Programme

The purpose of the doctoral program is to educate students who has got knowledge about basic physiological mechanisms, who can Access the scientific datas and expound these informations and has got the experiences about the basic experimental and research methodology. The thesis at the end of the doctoral program has got the attributes that; to bring a new glance to science or to develop a new scientific method, to carry the scientific method to a new scientific area which is already known.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Graduates can work as an academician in universities, faculties, in research laboratories which could be national or international.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates who are completed the program succesfully, can apply the doctorate programs in other multi-disciplinary departments.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The success of a course in the graduate program courses are determined by achievement grades. Course grade of the student is conducted during the semester midterm exams, practical works, assignments and a final exam. 40% of these mid-term exams or assignments and 60% of the final exam have been considered while calculating this grade. The calculation of these percentages, fractions will be retained, but the success of rational numbers to the nearest whole number in the calculation of scores are concluded. Lesson success grade is 76 for the doctorate programs. Final exam grade for the doctoral program, students must have at least 70 points. Also, doctoral students should be successful at the doctoral qualifying examination and dissertation defense according to the principles of the Ondokuz Mayis University postgraduate and doctoral education regulations.

Facilities

- Image Analysis Laboratory.
Stereologic method is used for cell counting.
- Epilepsy Laboratory.
PowerLab is used to record the elektrocorticogram experimental models of epilepsy
- Reflex and Motor Control Laboratory.

Predominantly electrophysiolgic,neurotoxicologic and stereologic studies have been done at the department. As multi-disciplinary research are carried out by use of biochemical and molecular researches.

Our department has got the basic facilities especially in neuroscience.
Students apply in our researches and projects .

  5. Access to the latest informations in physiology and to grasp them, and get the skills necessary to be able to use the highest level of competence.
  6. Solving the problems related to the field interacts with the functional use of strategic decision-making processes.
  7. To develop creative and critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, and using high-level mental processes with new ideas and methods related to physiology.
  8. To publish the Academic work outcomes in respected academic environments, and contribute to the literature.
  9. Having the Education level of expertise gained in the field of theoretical and practical knowledge in the original field of laboratory, clinical and other skills to perform and to create solutions to problems related to the field.
  10. To be renewed by following new scientific developments.
  11. To have at least one foreign language level to undertake research and to able to communicate by orally, literaturally and visually.
  12. To build up the encountered issues related to the social, scientific, cultural and ethical issues that contribute to the solution, and supports the development of these values.
