General Description

History

Our department is located in Ondokuz Mayis University Hospital, Medical Faculty and Graduate Health Sciences localization in Kurupelit. Our department was established in 1983 and educates both undergraduate and graduate students.

Qualification Awarded

Students who graduate successfully and get provisional competes receive Ph.D. degree.

Specific Admission Requirements

M.Sc. Graduates of departments of Biology and Molecular Biology and Genetics of Art and Science faculties and departments of Medical Biology of Medical Faculties can apply Ph.D. program. Candidates must also have English (KPDS, UDS and YDS) proficiency certificate. Applications are approved in accordance with Ondokuz Mayis University of Graduate and Doctorate Education Regulations.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The students who register both directly and via undergraduate transfer may be exempt from some lesson in accordance with regulations. In the case of consent of the content of lesson and timely application, collage/faculty/institute will exempt from the lesson.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Firstly, being successful from totally 28 credits (60 AKTS) lessons and 1 seminar lesson (at least 68 out of 100) of departmental and relevant departmental graduate program and present his/her thesis successfully with relevant subject in front of jury.

Profile of The Programme

Doctorate program provide special areas of Medical Biology and Genetics. Program includes compulsory and courses in Medical Biology and Genetics. Practice, both theoretical lessons and laboratory studies are included. In our department cell and tissue culture, cytogenetics, polymerase chain reaction, restriction fragment length polymorphism, methylation specific PCR methods are used.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

The graduates of this program can be employed as academic member in universities of Ministry of Higher Education in the case of providing necessary conditions.

Access to Further Studies

The candidates who graduate successfully: under the condition that gets passing note from Academic and Personal and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) and English proficiency exam (KPDS, UDS and YDS) and receiving passing note form the departmental oral exam can receive education in Post Doctorate program.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Able to link to national and international databases related to genetic and medical biology.
  2. Able to ask questions related to diseases; formulate hypothesis to search for the answers; write research projects to test these hypothesis; and successfully complete them.
  3. Able to read and understand the papers and books in fields of genetic and biology. Able to know and use the terminology used in fields of genetic and medical biology.
  4. Able to investigate the molecular basis of diseases.
  5. Ability to put forward a new approach or a method related to the genetic and medical biology fields by making use of higher learning centers/conciousness such as decision making, problem solving, and critical and ingeneous thinking.
  6. Ability to contribute to the process of being and sustenaning a knowledge-based society in which she/he is living by introducing scientific, technologic, social or cultural progresses in fields of genetic and medical biology.
  7. Knows the basic common properties of the living beings at both molecular and cellular levels. Knows and could explain how the species have evolved from a common ancestors. Recognizes that the evolution is at the center of scientific progress and the science per se.
  8. Knows the responsibilities of being a scientists. Works hard to further and spread the science and scientific thinking. Able to come cross with the society when it comes to tell the truth and defend the science.
