General Description

History

Our department has settled on the campus where Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Institute of Health Science are also there. Our department was established in 2003. Our academic staffs consist of one Professor one Associated Professor and three Assistant Professors and we still continue to graduate and undergraduate education.

The title of PhD in field of pharmacology and toxicology is obtained if the successful completion of this program and its requirements.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

ITEM 37 – (1) PhD qualification program consists of courses, qualifying examination, thesis proposal and dissertation examination.
(2) Students who are admitted to the Ph.D. program with a master's degree have to complete at least seven courses, 24 credits, 60 ECTS, one seminar and thesis proposal which contains 120 ECTS. Students who are admitted to the Ph.D. program with a bachelor's degree have to complete at least 15 courses, 44 credits, 120 ECTS, two seminars and thesis proposal which contains 120 ECTS.

Profile of The Programme

This PhD program provides education in the special fields of pharmacology and toxicology. This program includes obligatory and optional courses in the field of pharmacology and toxicology. The application includes both theoretical and laboratory work. Studies performed in our department include:
Toxicology and risk assessment studies of pesticides and other toxic compounds
Drug and toxic material residues in animal originated foods
Pesticide quality and stability analysis
Pharmacological and chemical pharmacokinetic and bioequivalent studies of veterinary drugs
Method development in Gas (GC) and liquid (HPLC) chromatography
Toxicological researches of feeds
Spectrophotometric researches
Extractions, purification and qualitative-quantitative analysis of active ingredients from plants
Isolated organ bath system applications

Facilities

Sample preparation laboratory
The laboratory is well equipped for sample preparation which should perform before pharmacological and toxicological analysis.
This laboratory has ultra-pure water system, sterilizer, 3 incubators, deep freezer (-18°C), solid phase extraction system, centrifuge, refrigerated centrifuge, 2 digital automatic pipette, fume cupboard, 2 refrigerators, climatic cabinet, digital pH meter, 2 vortex, magnetic mixer, evaporation system under nitrogen stream, orbital shaker, homogenizer and rotary evaporator.

Pesticide stability and analysis laboratory
Pharmacological and toxicological analyses are performed in this laboratory. Also, the laboratory is registered by Ministry of Health of Turkey for accelerated and real time stability tests of public health pesticides.
The laboratory has gas chromatography (GC) (equipped with FID and ECD detectors), high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) (equipped with DAD, FLD and ECD) high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) (equipped with UV and FLD detectors), UV visible spectrophotometry (equipped with thermal control unit), four canalled isolated organ bath system and fume cupboard.

  10. To interpret the results obtained the analysis of pharmacology and toxicology
  11. To present and publish the results of scientific research in the field of pharmacology and toxicology
  12. To reach the scientific resources by use the internet
  13. To conduct researches with disciplines related to pharmacology and toxicology
  14. To transfer the scientific information academically
  15. To communicate with industrial area via the knowledge and the ability to use the analytical instruments
  16. To make scientific research planning and implementation
  17. To read and understand the literature in foreign language (English)
  18. To communicate with domestic and foreign scientists
  19. To make presentation the subjects in pharmacology and toxicology
