General Description

History

Department of Internal Medicine was established at the Clinics of Veterinary Faculty which located at the Kurupelit Campus in 2003. Active education, research and routine clinical services have been continued.

Qualification Awarded

After the successful completion of the program and fulfillment of requirements, a doctoral degree in Internal Medicine is awarded.

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates must hold a degree that passed five years in veterinary medicine. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in a language by satisfying one of the following exams; UDS, KPDS, TOEFL or equivalent approved by YOK, and provide the minimum acceptable score as approved by the Regulations of The Higher Education and Doctorate Training of University of Ondokuz Mayis.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Candidates who register directly to the doctorate programme or transferred laterally could be exempted in some lectures within significant circumstances. Students could be exempted in case their registrations are made on time and the lectures are approved by the associate higher school/faculty/institute.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students must pass at least 80 credits (120 ECTS) lessons of the same department or programme associated departments and 1 seminar (with 70 points out of 100 points).

Profile of The Programme

The main mission of the Internal Medicine Department is training, research and presenting the clinical services. On the other hand, The main responsibility of the department is to train individual scientific persons of Veterinary Internal Medicine, who can have the sufficient scientific theoretical and practice rules of their own principles in their fields and to plan and direct a scientific research own by their owns, to come trough a reason with scientifically evaluating the data. Furthermore, to train individual scientific persons who can come trough a reason and take roles in prevention in domestic and exotic animal diseases with laboratory and physical examination findings, to gain gold standards in animal husbandry with prevention, to take a part in academic and government missions and work as a scientific researchers in the animal health. Clinics of Internal Medicine Department are consisted of the two main clinics; “Small and Large Animal Clinics.” Our students take “Clinical Examination Techniques “, “Large animal internal diseases” and "Small animal internal diseases”.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Graduates could work as Lecturers and Residents in case of the necessity of the Universities that belongs to YOK. Furthermore they could work with a PhD degree in The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Veterinary Control and Research Institutes, Jockey Clubs, Zoos, Leather and ancillary industries, Drug industries, Large Animal Enterprises and so in small animal practice.

Facilities

The laboratory is well equipped with Electrocardiography, Ultrasonography, Echocardiography, Doppler Ultrasonography Units (2-D Spectral Doppler), Abacus Junior Vet Full Automatic Blood Count Analyzer, Idexx Vettest Blood Chemistry Analyzer, Idexx Vetstat Blood Gas Analyzer and May-Grünwalt and Gimsa stains, Sedimentation pipettes and stands, Centrifuge and Microscope. Whole Blood Count, Serum Blood Chemistry, Blood Gas and Urine Analyses can be done in this laboratory.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Veterinary surgeon improves his ability and skills according to the developing world circumstances and also knows his authority and responsibilities.
  2. Veterinary surgeon knows the principles of being a preventative veterinarian to public, animal and herd management and reflects these to his practice.
  3. He should well recognize the environment, healthy animal and healthy public and he could take any attention for sustainable protection such environmental and natural life.
  4. Veterinary surgeon as him self has the enough knowledge that based on the veterinary medicine education.
  5. Veterinary surgeon as himself has the enough knowledge for the structure and functions of healthy animals, livestock rising, reproduction and health, animal breeding and feed production with its storing process.
  6. Veterinary surgeon as himself has the enough knowledge for the etiologies about the diseases that occurring in the animal or in the herd, diagnosis and duration of the diseases and the treatment protocols with the disease that spreads animal to human or human to animal.
  7. Veterinary surgeon as him self knows and practices the treatment protocols in the internal medicine for livestock, companion and exotic animals.
